Berniece Clare Marek

	Berniece Clare Marek, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:13 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Marshall Browning Hospital.
	Mrs. Marek was a retired retail clerk and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was also a past-member of Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters.
	Mrs. Marek was born September 10, 1911 in Du Quoin, the daughter of John and Katherine (Maday) Kowzan.  She married Loddie A. Marek on August 12, 1940 in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1998.
	Surviving are sons, Lt. Col. (retired) Paul Marek  and wife De Nise of Hammond, Louisiana and Tom Marek and wife Sandy of Du Quoin; five nephews, Joe Bill Kowzan, Danny Kowzan, Gerald Kowzan, Charles Kowzan and Phillip Kowzan; niece, Lonnie Walker; sister-in-law, Gerry Kowzan; five grandchildren, Lana Marek, Steve Marek and wife Jill, Karen Yusko and husband Matt, Joseph Gallinaro and special friend Megan and Jon Gallinaro and wife Caroline and three great-grandchildren, Hadley and Hannah Marek and Kaylee Allen.
	She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.
	Mrs. Marek was very fond of her three great-grandchildren.
	Funeral services were Monday, January 19 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Harry J. Jerome officiating.  Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
	Friends called after 8:30 a.m. Monday at Maxton Funeral Chapel in Du Quoin.
	Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
	The family would like to thank nurses and doctors and Fair Acres Nursing Home for all the care given.
